"Blast from the Past"

Materials: Cloth, lemongrass essential oil, book page shavings.

Artist Statement:

When i found out we could use scent as a material for this project i know just what I could do. This piece is a moment from when I was younger. I was always close with my dad growing up, we would do everything together. This piece represents a specific memory of me sitting with him in a rocking chair, reading together. The cloth is the closest material to that of the blanket I had and I used book shavings covered in lemongrass scent because lemongrass was a present scent in the memory.

This excites the cold receptors into overreacting and firing furiously." -Diane Ackerman Why do we get goosebumps? The answer to this dates back to our ancestors. The photo reflects upon the idea that our touch receptors and neurons are constantly firing to the brain in reaction to what the skin is feeling.
